AAGPS Return to Sports Notice – 10/7/2020
The AAGPS Chairman, Mr Mark Ticehurst, in consultation with the GPS Headmasters’ Standing Committee, wishes to provide the following update regarding the return to GPS sporting programmes in 2020:
The Rifle Shooting Championships will be held as scheduled on Tuesday 21 July 2020 and Wednesday 22 July 2020 at the North Shore Regional Shooting Complex, Hornsby.
Due to current Government restrictions, the Athletics Championships will be held over two days at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre. The Senior Premiership will take place on Saturday 1 August 2020, and the Junior and Intermediate Divisions will be held on Sunday 2 August 2020. The event will be live streamed and the final program of events will be revealed shortly.
In the best interest of the health and wellbeing of students, staff and communities, and in line with current Government restrictions and health advice these events will be closed to spectators. Athletes, officials and coaches are the only permitted attendees of these events.
The winter sport program will commence on 8 August 2020 with all fixtures now published on the AAGPS website. There will be also no spectators permitted at these fixtures until at least 22 August 2020. This will be reviewed and a further announcement will be made following this date. The AAGPS is committed to a safe return to sport for all students, staff, volunteers and our many families and friends in our wider communities.
The return to sport is accompanied by the AAGPS “Return to Sport Guidelines”. A detailed risk management framework, cognisant of the COVID-19 environment, has determined these guidelines, and the resumption of all sports and associated events over the coming season.
The AAGPS acknowledges that advice and the current situation has, and will continue to change rapidly. As the situation evolves, the AAGPS will continue to monitor, and act accordingly throughout the remainder of 2020.
