All AAGPS competitions will re-commence on Saturday 29 August 2020. The full details of a revised schedule, including for fixtures that were to be played on Saturday 22 August 2020 will be available shortly on the AAGPS website.

Participating students and staff will adhere to COVID-19 guidelines from NSW Health at all times, including restricting large numbers of students gathering, and of the understanding that AAGPS fixtures should be run within local boundaries determined by schools or school systems. As determined by NSW Health, there is no requirement for the member schools of the AAGPS to follow the same zonal boundaries as applies to public schools.

AAGPS Sports Update – 21 August 2020

On Tuesday 18 August 2020, AAGPS Chairman, Mr Mark Ticehurst announced that all AAGPS 2020 winter sport competitions and fixtures were suspended immediately. This decision was taken in response to advice from NSW Health published on 14 August 2020.

The AAGPS notes some media reports about different opinions and possibilities for a return of GPS winter sports. GPS winter sports are school-based rather than community-based competitions. This means that our reference point is advice provided by NSW Health for minimising the risk of COVID-19 transmission in school communities. This advice differs to advice for community-based sport.

The AAGPS wants to be clear that above all, it will follow the advice of NSW Health and other relevant authorities in this matter and will always act in the best interests of the health and wellbeing of students and staff.

Within these parameters, the AAGPS will continue discussions with the relevant authorities and consider a return to a modified schedule of winter sport if it is approved and COVID-safe. We are working productively with government and health authorities.

The response to the pandemic has required all parts of society to adjust as new information comes to hand. The GPS is no different. The AAGPS will continue to monitor and act accordingly throughout the remainder of 2020.

The AAGPS will continue to communicate as changing circumstances require.

The remainder of the 2020 calendar will remain as per scheduled, with schools permitted to conduct sporting activities within current Government health and safety guidelines in preparation for the re-commencement of AAGPS sporting fixtures when it is deemed safe and appropriate to do so.

AAGPS Sports Update – 6 May 2020

The AAGPS Chairman, Mr Mark Ticehurst, in consultation with the GPS Headmasters’ Standing, wishes to advise the following update regarding the return to GPS sporting programmes in 2020:

As boys return to Schools, the AAGPS continues to monitor Government guidelines regarding a possible return to School Sports. It appears that the approach of a systematic phased return could be adopted with details and timing to follow.

However, for the AAGPS, the decision has been made to concentrate on Athletics in Term 2 with the possibility of the AAGPS Championships scheduled for Term 3.

It is proposed that decisions about the full Winter Sports season be deferred until the status of the COVID-19 environment in New South Wales is more fully understood and guidelines are released by Government sources.

A modified or full Winter Sports season may be possible in Term 3 but it is premature to commit to that at the present time.

For further information or clarification, please contact Mr Mark Ticehurst, AAGPS Chairman on 0427 990 761, or Mr Nigel Price, Executive Officer on 0497 012 143.
